Kammererite is a type of clinochlore that contains chromium (Cr). It is red or green, and the chlorite group is made up of all clinochlore. Kammererite and sheridanites have only rarely been cut as gemstones by faceters.

Kammererite is hard to cut because it is made of mica. It is easy to break up into thin sheets, or layers called laminae, which are solid but flexible. Kammererite also has a perfect basal cleavage, which tends to break when hit. Factors who like to take risks must be cautious with these stones.

Gem lovers who want to wear finished Kammererite as jewellery stones would have to be even more daring. They are only 2 to 2.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. If you had a copper coin in your pocket or purse and wore a kammererite ring, the coin would scratch the gem. House dust, which has a hardness of 7, is a more common danger and would rub it even more efficiently.
